Jan 12
Bio-Architecture National Course

Introductory on-going courses from Jan through April will be held in Florence, Italy. These are  prerequisites for further courses.  


April 24 - Deadline
 
Participate in Core77's exciting design contest! Two new categories were added for a total of 17. Our favorite one is the Design for Social Impact category. Deadline is March 13th. Good luck!




April 30 - Deadline   Extended!   

The International Conference on Additive Technologies(iCAT) 2012 is open for entries in lighting, transport, jewellry and industrial products. Take note: there are two deadlines. One for on-line submissions and one for snail mail.


 

April 30 - Deadline 

Enter the 11th annual Best Tall Building Awards competition. In addition to the regional category, this year introduces two new categories on performance (for buildings in existence at least 5 years) and innovation (for newly built or conceptual buildings). The October awards ceremony will take in Chicago.  







May 1 - Deadline Unrestricted Access
 

An international competition focused on transforming abandoned, closed (or scheduled for closure) and decommissioned military sites worldwide. Besides the $5,000 worth of prizes, it is a chance to erase engines of war. UPDATE: The winners will be showcased at this year's Venice Biennale in Italy!

  


May 1 - Registration Opens 
 

The Clean Water America Alliance will be hosting its annual Urban Water Sustainability Leadership Conference  and early registration starts as soon as May 1st. This year's event will take place in Cincinnati, OH on October 15.











June - "I Love Architecture" Auction  

You won't want to miss this on-line event! Architecture For Humanity has launched this auction to raise funds for pro-bono disaster relief efforts (caused by climate change). Submit a sketch, pledge your support and attend the auction. Libeskind, Piano, Graves and Gehry are participating, so why not you?! And see which ones have submitted sketches.




  











Aug 2 - Deadline 
 

An international student design award with a £10,000 cash prize to the winning design. Watch a video of the 2011 winner who designed AirDrop, and innovative device for harvesting ambient moisture for drip irrigation utilization inspired by a beetle.

Graffiti Initiative

Manila city officials, together with the World Wide Fund, are creating graffiti on walls with a special photocatalytic paint that removes air pollutants and toxins.  Watch the transformative process here to believe it as this puts a new spin on graffiti art.











Prix Emile Hermès Design Highlights


Forget the scarf! The French luxury goods maker sponsors a product design competition for young designers. 2011's competition theme "Heat, Me Heat, Re-Heat" focused on energy efficiency and sustainable product design. Click on the logo to see 12 innovative designs from the finalists.



 



Your Street Challenge


This is a neat event sponsored by Design Indaba. Local designers in South Africa are asked to develop viable solutions to revivify any street in Gauteng. The theme says it all, "Owning, Loving, and Improving Your Street" to bring positive social change to communities. We look forward to seeing the results.
